Dev Log #1: Four elements, one body

Welcome to the Primal Balance dev log. This is where we’ll share progress on the game: new techniques, new places, and the occasional thing that broke in a spectacular way.

Primal Balance is a full-body VR martial arts RPG. The idea is simple to say and hard to build: your real stance, punches and kicks are how you shape the elements.

Where things stand

The prototype already has all four disciplines playable: Earth stones, walls and spike waves; Water streams drawn from real pools, tendrils and waves; Fire punches, bow, swords, shield and palm jets; and Air balls, staffs and gusts. Kicks, stomps and spinning kicks are read from body trackers on the hips and feet.

Recent work

  • Element reactions. Fire boils standing water into steam, air freezes steam into ice, water turns earth craters into mud, and wind whips fires into travelling whirls.
  • Sculpted ice. Frozen steam now forms faceted crystal clusters you can pull to your hand and throw as shards.
  • A more open training area and new wind-streak visuals for Air.
  • Friendlier water shaping. Drawing water from a pond is now much more forgiving to aim.

What’s next

The next big push is the world itself: turning the riverside training ground into the first piece of a real region, with terrain, paths and a village where fights break out naturally.
